Hot Girl Summer may be ending, but the newest owner of the Popeyes franchise, a Megan Thee Stallion, stays super busy, teaming up with you Fried Chicken Chain to release a new sauce – poetically called Megan Thee Stallion Hottie Sauce – October 19. The sauce will be made with a mixture of honey, apple cider vinegar and Aleppo pepper, according to a press release from Popeyes. So, I guess the hot spicy chicken summer is… forever? The sauce will be offered on the chain’s chicken sandwich, marking the first time the company has tested a variation of the sandwich, which peaked in popularity after its introduction in 2019.
Along with Miss Megan’s gravy drop, there are plenty of other announcements about the rapper’s collaboration with the fast food chain. There is a drop of merchandise, which will include “bikinis, long sleeve shirts, hats, cups” and, not to mention, a “Popeyes Chicken Tenders plush dog toy”. So basically all the necessities of human life. Thanks for this food, Megan. There’s also a 13-second teaser for a rather bizarre Western music video promotion, in which a cowgirl breaks into a saloon and yells, “Someone stole your Hottie sauce!” to which Megan Thee Stallion replies “not my Hottie sauce!” The rapper is dressed in a dazzled iconic piece, a glittery cowboy hat, and generally looks very hot and ready to ruin someone’s day for stealing their Hottie sauce.
Along with the sauce release, merchandise drop, and music video, perhaps the most interesting thing is that the superstar rapper will be a multi-milking as she also becomes a restaurateur. In the statement, Thee Stallion says she looks forward to opening her own Popeyes restaurants – yes, Restaurants, plural. She adds: “Teaming up with Popeyes is an important step in my journey and my development as an entrepreneur.”
Over the past year, collaborations have proven to be hugely profitable for fast food chains and celebrities. When Travis Scott has teamed up with McDonald’s over a meal named after the rapper, this led to a viral TikTok trend and would have grossed the artist some $ 20 million. After that came a whole list of similar collaborations, each one again trying to catch lightning in a Big Mac. There are Lil Nas X and Taco Bell, and Saweetie and her “Big Mac, a four-piece Chicken McNuggets, medium fries, a medium Sprite, tangy barbecue sauce and something called ‘Saweetie’ N Sour ‘sauce,” not to mention McDonald’s collaborations with J Balvin and BTS.
Other celebrities have been very involved in their collaborations. Travis Scott, for example, was apparently very invested in the creative design of his McDonald’s meal. Megan Thee Stallion takes it one step further. Of course, you can get your hands on her namesake sauce and wear what is – I’m sure – a very interesting Popeyes bikini. But once she has a few franchises under her belt, you can also end up eating your Hottie Gravy Sandwich at a stall owned by the hot girl herself.
